Swiss GCOS Office

The successful implementation of the Global Climate Observing System GCOS relies not only on international coordination but also on a well-functioning coordination and strategic planning at national level in as many countries as possible.

The Swiss GCOS Office is responsible for coordinating all climate relevant observations in Switzerland. This includes, inter alia, the following activities:

• Coordinate between the partners of climate observation in Switzerland (federal offices, research institutes and universities)
• Identify, update and maintain the national inventory of the most valuable long climate measurement series (Inventory)
• Compile reports on systematic climate observation in Switzerland as part of the
  national communications under the UN Climate Convention (UNFCCC)
• Facilitate the dialog with the GCOS Secretariat at the WMO headquarters in Geneva, national coordinating bodies in other countries and further international institutions
